Welcome back people!

Our monthly night at La Havana Bar passed on Saturday with another decent turn out of regulars and new faces alike. As always your support is hugely appreciated in making the night successful, and we look forward to seeing everyone out again next month.

A while back I gave you all a heads up about a brand spanking new London based soul and funk night in the pipe line from our long time guest contributor and fellow London collector, Jamie Coughlan. After much searching for a suitable venue, Jamie has managed to secure The Elbow Room in Shoreditch for his new venture, The Bump & Hustle. For those that haven’t previously paid a visit to the venue, it’s a fantastic American styled Pool lounge and bar, originally established and set up by DJ and producer, Arthur Baker.

This is going to be monthly night which will fall on the second Saturday of every month. It all kicks off this Saturday 14th February and I’m very privileged as he’s kindly asked me down to fill the guest DJ slot for the opening night. I’ll try and keep you abreast of future guests and details for the forthcoming dates below:

So in the meantime, I have something very special for you that’s been simmering on the back burners here at The Hook And Sling for a while now (Apologies for my disorganisation Sasha!) After the excellent double edged guest mix HERE and HERE from Bold Soul Brother, it’s time to welcome another new guest selector to TH&S fold.

Russia’s funk scene is rapidly developing of late, producing not just DJ’s but also some great bands. Today’s new guest mix is a collection of Deep funk joints put together by Sasha Gonzo – Record collector, DJ and Organist from the St. Petersburg - based Wake & Bake band who released their first seven inch on the Munich based Tramp Record Label in autumn 2008. The band are getting ready for another release in Europe now, so keep an ear close to the ground for more details on that one! I have to say today’s mix is definitely worth checking out not only for the selections, but also for the quality of mixing!
