Hello,
I am Michael, I am a true lover of rare soul and I enjoy your website! I don’t contact you to remove some material… I would just to ask a question.
I am french and I would know the meaning of the phrase “Hook & Sling” I know this song title from Eddie Bo since a long time and I always wanted to understand the meaning…
Could explain the meaning to me please?
Thanks a lot!

Hey Michael,
Thanks for rolling by and I’m really glad you enjoy the website!
We chose the name ‘The Hook & Sling’ for the website as aside from being very cool sounding it was up there as one of our favourite funk 45s.
The 45 went national but I would assume from the vocals across parts 1 & 2 that it was possibly a local dance craze?
Check Larry Grogans article here:

And also Martin Lawrie’s fantastic Bo discography Here:

I hope this helps!

Hey Mr DD,
I’m the singer with ‘The Impellers’ and we’ve just had our debut single (How Am I?) and debut album (Robot Legs) released on Freestyle Records. We love your podcasts and would love it if you would have a listen to our stuff! We’ve just been playlisted on Parkdale Funk’s new mix, and also recorded a live session for Craig Charles on his BBC Radio 6 Funk & Soul Show last Saturday 1st August (a video will be available on the site soon as they recorded the whole thing). Being a local girl (I’m from Bognor!) it would be cool to be a part of your shows. I see you have a link to Ticklin’ The Pickle, a fantastic band and I reckon Tim is one of the best Hammond players in the UK.
Hope you have the time to listen and you like!
